你的一份爱心也许能园一个“同济梦”。

TJUAAA Assistantship was born out of the love, appreciation, and loyalty of all Tongji alumni residing in America, to our Alma Mater, who has generously offered us the opportunity, the knowledge, and the might we need to survive and succeed in this foreign land. We all feel grateful and always want to do something for her.

With tuition and living expense ever rocketing nowadays, as we learn, there are a number of students each year, whose studies at Tongji are hampered by their financial constraints. Some less fortunate even have to give up their study priviledges. Most of us may not be as well-to-do as our peers in China, but we appreciate more truthfully the spirit of love and giving and we are here to offer as much help as we can.

In May 2002, on the occasion of celebrating Tongji's 95th anniversary, TJUAAA Assistantship was formally established to assist those who are financially deprived and most needed students in continuing their academic studies at Tongji. With overwhelming support from alumni, the first donation drive ended up with close to $3,000, which has been awarded to 10 students.

Our financial capability might be limited, but let's give a hand to those less fortunate, big or small, for our love and for their bright future.

你的每一分捐款都会交到贫困学生手中。

1. How is TJUAAA Assistantship operated?

Every penny received for TJUAAA Assistantship goes to the hands of the selected recipients at Tongji. Operating costs and expenses associated, such as web hosting and application fees, are matched by members of TJUAAA Executive Committee, just as the precious time and efforts they have contributed. The operation of TJUAAA Assistantship is governed by the Governing Board of TJUAAA. All donations are reported online and are subject to audit if in question.

2. What are the criteria in selecting the recipients?

Currently, only those students who have been admitted to but unable to attend Tongji University due to their financial difficulties are eligible for receiving TJUAAA Assistantship. With our limited help, we are hoping they could embark on their study. More financial resources, such as scholarship, are usually available once they get into the school and study hard enough. To save our work, TJUAAA has asked Mr. GAN Guohua, secretary of Tongji University Alumni Association, to select the recipients on our behalf.

3. How about growing TJUAAA Assistantship by investment?

TJUAAA Assistantship is still in her infancy and has not set any donation goal so far. In fact, her mission is more to encourage the spirit of giving and rewarding as a alumnus or alumna. However, if TJUAAA Assistanship ever grows substantially in the future, subject to the approval of the TJUAAA's Governing Board, we might consider the suggestion proposed by some of the members to set aside a portion and grow it by investing in some financial instruments.

We greatly appreciate your support of TJUAAA Assistantship.
